Sara calls Paolo from the delayed train
A fictional Saturday call. The full recording lasts about two and a half minutes.
Good morning, I am Sara, Elena’s friend. I am calling from the train to Borgo Nuovo: there is a delay.
- Paolo: Buongiorno, Sara.
Good morning, Sara. Elena told me your train was due at 10:20. What does the notice say?
It expects an arrival at 10:55, but that is not yet confirmed. I am calling to update the plan.
- Paolo: Ha fatto bene.
You were right to call. When do you think you will reach the library if the train arrives as expected?
- Sara: Il percorso dalla stazione richiede circa quindici minuti. Potrei essere lì verso le 11:10, non alle 11:00.
The walk from the station takes about fifteen minutes. I could be there around 11:10, not 11:00.
- Paolo: Elena e io abbiamo già preparato i primi cartelli. Possiamo iniziare l’allestimento senza di lei.
Elena and I have already prepared the first signs. We can start the set-up without you.
- Sara: Mi dispiace non esserci dall’inizio. Dopo le 11:10 potrei aiutare all’accoglienza dei visitatori?
I am sorry not to be there from the start. After 11:10, could I help welcome visitors?
Yes. The exhibition opens at 11:30, so there is still time to explain what to do.
Quale porta deve usare?
One person in my group needs to enter without steps. Which door should they use?
The side door on Via del Porto. The main entrance has two steps; a volunteer waits near the side door.
Excuse me, could you repeat the street name? I do not want to send that person to the wrong door.
The volunteer stays there from 10:30 to 17:00. If you need other help, ask at the information desk.
- Sara: Grazie.
Thank you. Can you confirm that the meeting about the square stays at 16:00 even though I arrive later?
Yes, the meeting does not change. We will discuss a proposed three-month Saturday-afternoon trial.
If I understood correctly, the council has not yet approved the trial. Is that correct?
- Paolo: Esatto.
Exactly. The movable benches and planters are ideas for discussion. Questions about deliveries and accessible passage remain open.
I would like to say that the proposal interests me, but clear conditions are needed. Have you decided who will collect reports?
No. We will ask the council for a contact and a date to review results. I cannot invent an answer today.
Then I will separate my observation from collected data. I have seen people look for a seat, but I have not counted them.
That is a useful contribution. Did you keep the delay notice? If you have it, can you send it to me to be safe?
Yes, I have it. I will send it to you now and then check if the train keeps the expected time.
- Paolo: Perfetto.
Perfect. So I will see you at the Via del Porto door after 11:10; if the arrival changes, let me know.
