Explain a problem

Develop health and services through a focused speaking itinerary.

Speaking task

You are a visitor at an Italian pharmacy. Speak with the pharmacist for 60–90 seconds. Say that you have a sore throat, explain that you do not understand an instruction on a package leaflet, and ask the pharmacist to explain it. Repeat the explanation in your own words and ask if you understood correctly. Use polite Lei forms. Do not invent a medicine or dosage; this is a language role-play, not medical advice.

  • Buongiorno, ho mal di gola. Che cosa posso prendere?· Good morning, I have a sore throat. What can I take?
  • Può spiegarmi queste istruzioni, per favore?· Can you explain these instructions to me, please?
  • Non capisco il foglio illustrativo.· I do not understand the package leaflet.
  • Legga il foglio e mi dica che cosa non è chiaro.· Read the leaflet and tell me what is not clear.

Performance and self-check

Use four keywords: problem, leaflet, question, confirmation. Record your first attempt. Check that the pharmacist can understand your question and that you do not claim a dose that was not given. Repeat with fewer notes. Notice formal commands such as «legga» and «chieda» and the polite request «Può spiegarmi…?».

  • Mostri la confezione al farmacista.· Show the package to the pharmacist. (formal)
