Use figurative language selectively
Defend one image and reject one overclaim aloud.
Give a public explanation
You are Sofia speaking to residents at a fictional pre-opening meeting. Give a 90-second Italian explanation of your proposed headline «Una sala cambia uso, una panchina cambia posto». Begin with the fixed facts: tomorrow the former station room is due to open for reading; the bench remains near the window; Marta’s panel names the old and new uses; the notebook stays in a box for now. Use one restrained metaphor, such as a possible link between two uses, and immediately explain its plain meaning. Reject «la lettura ha messo radici» because no period of public use has yet been observed. Do not predict attendance.
- La panchina può collegare due usi della stanza.· The bench can connect two uses of the room.
- In concreto, è stata conservata e spostata.· In concrete terms, it was kept and moved.
- Il nuovo uso non ha ancora preso piede.· The new use has not yet taken hold.
- Non conosciamo l’affluenza futura.· We do not know future attendance.
Explain the choice to fellow editors
Give a second 90-second Italian explanation to a fictional editorial group. Identify the source and target of your one metaphor, state its limit, and compare the connotations of «trasformazione» and «trionfo». Say why one invented title cannot establish language-wide semantic prosody; a broader claim would require repeated real examples. End by paraphrasing an idiom in plain language. Record yourself if possible. Ask a partner whether the public and editor versions imply the same decision status for the notebook and the same uncertainty about future use.
- Il campo di partenza è il ponte; il bersaglio è il passaggio fra usi.· The source field is a bridge; the target is the shift between uses.
- «Trionfo» aggiunge un giudizio non ancora fondato.· “Triumph” adds a judgement not yet supported.
- Un titolo inventato non è un corpus.· One invented headline is not a corpus.
- «Mettere nero su bianco» significa mettere per iscritto.· “Put in black and white” means put in writing.
