Explain difficult material clearly
Give two audience-specific explanations without changing the facts.
Prepare two spoken versions
You are Chiara in the fictional Bellacqua case. Prepare a 90-second explanation for committee members and a 45-second explanation for residents. For the committee, name the proposed method, the denominator of each existing count and the limit of a future entry count. For residents, say first that the library has not announced an approved opening. Both versions must state that Elena signed the technical report, the committee examined it without voting, and staffing and accessibility checks remain. Record yourself if you can; compare your words with the checklist rather than relying on speed or impressive syntax.
- Il comitato ha esaminato il rapporto, ma non ha votato.· The committee examined the report but has not voted.
- Se la prova sarà autorizzata, conteremo gli ingressi delle tre serate.· If the trial is authorised, we will count entries on the three evenings.
- Undici dei diciotto commenti volontari sono favorevoli.· Eleven of the eighteen voluntary comments are favourable.
- Questi commenti non descrivono l’opinione di tutta Bellacqua.· These comments do not describe the view of all Bellacqua.
Use syntax to guide the listener
Start with a short main clause, then add one qualification at a time. A committee version can say: «Qualora la prova venga approvata, conteremo gli ingressi; tuttavia il conteggio non dimostrerà, da solo, un effetto duraturo». A resident version can say: «L’apertura è ancora una proposta. Prima servono verifiche e un voto». Do not read the dense report sentence without a pause after the main claim. Ask a partner to repeat three points: present status, possible measurement, and what it cannot prove. If the partner misstates one, revise your spoken order.
- L’apertura è ancora una proposta.· The opening is still a proposal.
- Prima servono verifiche e un voto.· Checks and a vote are needed first.
- Il conteggio descriverebbe l’uso, non una causa duratura.· The count would describe use, not a lasting cause.
- Tuttavia non conosciamo l’opinione dei non visitatori.· However, we do not know the non-visitors’ views.
