Receiver first, thing second
When an indirect pronoun and a direct pronoun come together, the receiver comes first. Mi, ti, ci, and vi become me, te, ce, and ve before lo, la, li, or le. For a third-person receiver, gli or le joins the object pronoun as glielo, gliela, glieli, or gliele. Name the thing and the receiver before choosing a form.
- Il numero d'ordine? Me lo può mandare?· The order number? Can you send it to me?
- La ricevuta? Me la può inviare?· The receipt? Can you send it to me?
- Le foto? Me le manda oggi?· The photos? Will you send them to me today?
- La lampada? Gliela spediamo martedì.· The lamp? We will send it to her on Tuesday.
Place the group before a verb or on an infinitive
A combined pronoun group normally comes before a conjugated verb: «Me lo può mandare». With a following infinitive, it can instead attach to that infinitive: «Può mandarmelo». Keep the order of the receiver and the thing in both positions. Use the surrounding sentence to decide what lo, la, li, or le replaces.
- Me lo può inviare per email?· Can you send it to me by email?
- Può inviarmelo per email?· Can you send it to me by email?
- Te le mando appena le trovo.· I will send them to you as soon as I find them.
- Gliela confermo dopo il controllo.· I will confirm it to her after the check.
