The present conditional
Use condizionale presente for polite requests, wishes, advice, and hypothetical results. The endings are -ei, -esti, -ebbe, -emmo, -este, -ebbero.
- Vorrei parlare con il direttore.· I would like to speak with the manager.
- Potresti aiutarmi?· Could you help me?
- Vorrei cambiare la data della prenotazione.· I would like to change the date of the booking.
- Potrebbe verificare se c’è un’altra camera?· Could you check whether there is another room?
Form, meaning, and contrast
Compare the second set of models. Identify the contrast in meaning, then check verb form, agreement, pronoun position, and the logical relation before you produce a new sentence.
- Mi dispiace, ma dovremmo applicare una penale.· I am sorry, but we would have to apply a charge.
