Terminology and specialist collocations
Use technical words with a defined scope.
Name the object of each professional claim
In the Bellacqua dossier, «campione» means the observed set, not every resident; «denominatore» names the total behind a proportion; «protocollo» is a planned method; «delibera» is a formal decision, not an examined report; «preventivo» is a cost estimate, not an invoice. Use these terms because they distinguish concepts. At first mention in a public brief, explain the term in a short apposition. Avoid borrowing a clinical term, such as «controindicato», for an ordinary scheduling preference: it suggests a medical judgement that this case does not contain.
- Il campione dei commenti è volontario, non rappresentativo.· The set of comments is voluntary, not representative.
- Il denominatore è diciotto commenti ricevuti.· The denominator is eighteen received comments.
- Il preventivo indica una spesa stimata.· The estimate gives a projected cost.
- Una delibera richiede un voto che qui manca.· A resolution requires a vote that is missing here.

Professional Italian often uses stable verb-noun pairs: «formulare un’ipotesi», «raccogliere dati», «verificare un requisito», «adottare una delibera», «stimare un costo», «fornire un riscontro». A collocation does not make a claim true: «raccogliere dati» cannot describe future entries that have not been collected. In an expert note, «si ipotizza una relazione» marks a hypothesis; in a public brief, «potrebbe esserci un legame, ma non lo sappiamo ancora» exposes the uncertainty. Check whether each noun refers to an existing document, a proposed action or an actual result.
- Chiara formula un’ipotesi sul possibile uso serale.· Chiara forms a hypothesis about possible evening use.
- Il comitato deve verificare i requisiti prima di votare.· The committee must check the requirements before voting.
- Non si sono ancora raccolti dati sugli ingressi serali.· No data on evening entries have yet been collected.
- Il comitato non ha adottato una delibera.· The committee has not adopted a resolution.
