Audit focus, register and agency
Edit this fictional draft: «Il quaderno blu, è già in mostra; Silvio ha spostato la panchina. Si è deciso di pubblicare il diario dei visitatori: sono tutti entusiasti». It contains an unnecessary comma between subject and verb, but the larger errors are factual: the notebook is boxed, its display is undecided, the bench mover is unknown, and no visitor diary or judgement exists yet. A marked construction can focus an existing fact («Il quaderno blu, Marta lo tiene nella scatola»); it cannot make an invented fact true. An impersonal «si è deciso» may hide who decided and falsely imply a decision. Replace it with the open status. In a public note, prefer a direct sentence if the topic frame adds no value.
- Il quaderno blu, Marta lo tiene nella scatola.· The blue notebook, Marta keeps it in the box.
- Resta da decidere se e come esporre il quaderno.· It remains to decide whether and how to display the notebook.
- Non sappiamo chi abbia spostato la panchina.· We do not know who moved the bench.
- Non abbiamo ancora dati sulle reazioni dei visitatori.· We do not yet have data on visitor reactions.
Audit syntax, punctuation and pragmatic force
In an internal brief you may use a concessive clause to hold two true facts together: «Benché Silvio abbia trovato il quaderno, non è stata presa una decisione sull’esposizione». For a public notice split it into two short sentences. The semicolon can join closely related independent clauses; it cannot replace the causal link that a reader needs. A colon can introduce a precise explanation. Read aloud to check rhythm, but never use rhythm to conceal a missing fact. Finally, check whether «Potremmo forse rivedere il titolo?» is a real request in context. If a literal answer leaves the false title in place, state the edit directly. Produce a 90-word internal note and a 55-word public notice from the corrected facts.
- Benché sia stato trovato, il quaderno non è in mostra.· Although it was found, the notebook is not on display.
- Il limite è questo: non ci sono ancora dati sui visitatori.· The limit is this: there are no visitor data yet.
- La sala apre domani; le reazioni si potranno osservare dopo.· The room opens tomorrow; reactions can be observed later.
- Intendo: cambiamo il titolo prima di pubblicare.· I mean: let us change the headline before publishing.
