Variety mission
Publish accurate labels and adapt one invitation for two audiences.
Repair a misleading public post
The fictional team receives this draft: «Alla mostra di sabato impari l’unico nome corretto del frutto: anguria. Chi dice cocomero è sicuramente di Firenze. Tutti i siciliani dicono arancino. Offriamo assaggi gratuiti». Mark four unsupported claims: one “only correct” ranking, one inference about a person, one absolute regional generalisation, and one invented service. Write a 100–130-word neutral Italian replacement. Explain anguria/cocomero as two names for one fruit and arancina/arancino as forms with broad patterns and exceptions. State that the display offers word labels, not food.
- «Anguria» e «cocomero» indicano lo stesso frutto.· “Anguria” and “cocomero” name the same fruit.
- Una parola non prova la città di chi la usa.· One word does not prove the user’s city.
- «Arancina» e «arancino» hanno usi geografici non assoluti.· “Arancina” and “arancino” have non-absolute geographical usage.
- La mostra presenta cartelli, non assaggi.· The exhibition presents labels, not tastings.
Invite and explain
Write a separate 70–90-word invitation to a director you know little. Use courtesy Lei consistently and keep the Saturday opening and no-tasting facts. Then say a 30-second informal invitation to a friend using tu with the same facts. Add a two-line editor’s note stating that the characters and exhibition are fictional and that the transcript is not evidence of a real accent. The mission succeeds only if the public label is intelligible, both invitations agree on the facts, and neither version assigns a word to every member of an area.
- Gentile Direttrice, La invitiamo a visitare la mostra sabato.· Dear Director, we invite you to visit the exhibition Saturday.
- Ti va di visitare la mostra sabato?· Would you like to visit the exhibition Saturday?
- I cartelli spiegano varianti locali del lessico.· The labels explain local vocabulary variants.
- Il dialogo è immaginario e non documenta accenti reali.· The dialogue is fictional and does not document real accents.
