Comparative analysis
Write an editor’s note comparing local lexis and register.
Advise the exhibition committee
Write a 300–380-word Italian note to the fictional Le parole a tavola committee. Compare three short draft lines: «Solo anguria è corretto»; «In tutta la Sicilia si dice arancino»; «Ti invitiamo, Gentile Direttrice, a una degustazione sabato». For each, identify the specific problem. Propose a replacement that explains anguria/cocomero as names for one fruit, qualifies the arancina/arancino distribution, and uses a consistent formal address to the director. The exhibition has no tasting, so remove that promise. State separately which changes concern regional vocabulary and which concern register or factual accuracy.
- «Anguria» e «cocomero» indicano lo stesso frutto.· “Anguria” and “cocomero” name the same fruit.
- Le due forme siciliane hanno distribuzioni ampie, ma non assolute.· The two Sicilian forms have broad, but not absolute, distributions.
- Gentile Direttrice, La invitiamo alla mostra di sabato.· Dear Director, we invite you to Saturday’s exhibition.
- Il programma non comprende una degustazione.· The programme does not include a tasting.
Support and revise the note
Organise the note in three short paragraphs: word choices, address and event facts, final recommendation. Use the authored reading and transcript as the fictional case evidence. For the broader linguistic patterns, use the source notes in CONTENT_SOURCES.md; do not claim the three volunteers represent all speakers in their areas. End with a two-sentence public-label proposal. Check that Lei takes third-person singular verbs and that «La invitiamo» addresses the director, while the neutral label does not need a personal pronoun.
- «In alcune aree» è più preciso di «in tutta la Sicilia».· “In some areas” is more precise than “throughout Sicily.”
- Una preferenza individuale non dimostra una regola geografica.· An individual preference does not prove a geographical rule.
- «Può visitare» concorda con il Lei di cortesia.· “You can visit” agrees with courtesy Lei.
- Il cartello pubblico può evitare di rivolgersi a una persona.· The public label can avoid addressing a person.
