The city in 2040
Separate a small observation from a long-term forecast.
A fictional planning case
Valverde is a fictional city. In a four-week classroom case, observers checked 100 scheduled departures on each of two bus lines. They called a departure on time when it was no more than five minutes late. Line A met that limit 78 times; line B met it 63 times. These are sample observations, not citywide results. The observation did not test any new technology.
- A Valverde, la linea A è stata puntuale in 78 partenze su 100 osservate.· In Valverde, line A was on time in 78 of 100 observed departures.
- La linea B è stata puntuale in 63 partenze su 100.· Line B was on time in 63 of 100 departures.
- Una partenza era puntuale se il ritardo non superava cinque minuti.· A departure was on time if its delay was no more than five minutes.
- Quattro settimane non descrivono necessariamente tutto l’anno.· Four weeks do not necessarily describe the whole year.
A proposal is not a result
The fictional city is considering twelve digital timetable displays, shade at eight stops, and a traffic-light priority test on the same two lines. Funding and an access review are still pending. A future-perfect form can describe an action completed before a later point, but grammar does not make the project certain. Mark each forecast as conditional when its conditions are not met.
- Il comune propone dodici display informativi.· The city proposes twelve information displays.
- Il finanziamento non è stato ancora approvato.· The funding has not yet been approved.
- Se il progetto partirà, entro il 2030 il comune avrà installato i primi display.· If the project starts, the city will have installed the first displays by 2030.
- Non possiamo dedurre da due linee come viaggerà tutta la città nel 2040.· We cannot infer from two lines how the whole city will travel in 2040.
