An independent weekend

Manage a changed arrival and a public meeting in a fictional town.

One weekend, several decisions

Sara plans to visit her friend Elena in fictional Borgo Nuovo. She will help at the library and attend a meeting about Piazza del Tiglio. A train delay changes the first part of her plan. Read each update as a new fact. Do not treat the proposed change to the square as an approved decision.

  • Il treno doveva arrivare alle 10:20, ma ha accumulato trentacinque minuti di ritardo.· The train was due at 10:20, but it has a thirty-five-minute delay.
  • Quando ho letto l’avviso, Elena era già partita per la biblioteca.· When I read the notice, Elena had already left for the library.
  • Le ho mandato un messaggio prima di scendere dal treno.· I sent her a message before I got off the train.
  • Se arrivo ancora più tardi, le chiedo di iniziare senza di me.· If I arrive even later, I will ask her to start without me.

Keep facts, proposals, and opinions apart

Sara must check the new arrival time, find the step-free entrance, and decide what to say at the meeting. Use a past tense to explain the change, a conditional to offer an alternative, and an opinion expression when you give your view. Mark a proposal as a proposal until the council decides.

  • Il nuovo orario di arrivo è le 10:55.· The new arrival time is 10:55.
  • Il percorso senza gradini passa dall’ingresso laterale.· The step-free route uses the side entrance.
  • Penso che la prova sia utile, ma il consiglio non l’ha ancora approvata.· I think the trial is useful, but the council has not yet approved it.
  • Paolo chiede l’avviso del ritardo; glielo mostro.· Paolo asks for the delay notice; I show it to him.
