Common irregular present verbs
High-frequency verbs often have irregular present forms. Learn them in useful phrases, not as isolated lists. Fare gives faccio, fai, fa, facciamo, fate, fanno. Andare gives vado, vai, va, andiamo, andate, vanno.
Venire and uscire use a changed stem in several forms. Potere and dovere help you negotiate availability.
- Faccio una pausa alle undici.· I take a break at eleven.
- Vai in ufficio oggi?· Are you going to the office today?
- Andiamo al cinema venerdì.· We are going to the cinema on Friday.
- Viene anche Laura?· Is Laura coming too?
Form and use
Compare the forms in the second set. Identify what changes, what stays fixed, and what meaning the change creates.
- Esco dal lavoro alle sei.· I leave work at six.
