Reframe information

Address library users and the committee with different priorities.

Two spoken versions of one record

You are the fictional Bellacqua library spokesperson. Give a 90-second statement to library users who want to know whether July evening openings are certain. Focus on the missing vote and the two pending checks. Then give a 90-second statement to the culture committee. Focus on what the report and eighteen voluntary comments can and cannot show. Use one direct-object left dislocation with its clitic and one cleft that answers a real contrastive question. In both versions keep the same dates, three proposed Thursday evenings, €900 estimate, and no approval.

  • Agli utenti: «Quello che manca è il voto».· To users: “What is missing is the vote.”
  • Alla commissione: «Il rapporto, lo ha firmato Elena».· To the committee: “The report: Elena signed it.”
  • È la copertura del personale che dobbiamo verificare.· It is staffing coverage that we must check.
  • Le tre serate restano una proposta.· The three evenings remain a proposal.

Answer a false inference

A listener says: «Undici persone sono favorevoli, quindi Bellacqua ha votato sì». Correct the inference in 30 seconds. State the denominator and how comments were collected, then state which body can vote. Repeat the two 90-second versions with only five fact prompts. Compare their opening sentence: the topic and focus may differ, but no version may call the comments a city referendum or the pilot an authorised service.

  • Undici di diciotto commenti volontari sono favorevoli.· Eleven of eighteen voluntary comments are favourable.
  • Non è un voto rappresentativo della città.· It is not a representative city vote.
  • La commissione non ha ancora deliberato.· The committee has not yet decided.
  • Una diversa enfasi non cambia il dato.· Different emphasis does not change the fact.
