Lexical precision mission
Repair misleading promotional copy with a lexical rationale.
Correct the publisher’s unsafe description
A fictional draft for a cultural catalogue says: “The council demolishes an irreparable bench. Every resident agrees that its replacement is the only sensible choice, and the author shows that ‘panchinetta’ simply means a small bench.” This misstates the described novel. Give a 90-second spoken correction to the catalogue editor. The committee delays its decision and asks for an inspection; the bench is not removed. Irreparabile is Nico’s judgment. Ada’s panchinetta carries affection in her context but could carry another effect from another speaker. Eva’s riqualificazione leaves the concrete action open. Explain how a derived word and an altered noun can shape a reader’s expectation without establishing a plot fact.
- Il comitato rinvia la scelta: la panchina non viene demolita.· The committee delays its choice: the bench is not demolished.
- «Irreparabile» è una valutazione di Nico, non un referto.· “Irreparable” is Nico’s assessment, not a report.
- «Panchinetta» esprime affetto nella voce di Ada.· “Little bench” expresses affection in Ada’s voice.
- «Riqualificazione» non precisa se si riparerà o si sostituirà.· “Redevelopment” does not specify repair or replacement.
Deliver revised copy and an editor’s note
Write a 230–290-word Italian catalogue description and an 80–110-word editor’s note. The description must be engaging but preserve the unresolved ending and three distinct voices. Use two altered forms and one derived form with accurate attribution. Contrast riparare, restaurare, and sostituire without treating them as synonyms. The note must name each unsupported claim removed and explain the lexical reason for one change. Check that the revised copy does not pretend the separate full novel or an inspection report was supplied to the learner. No automatic assessment of speech or writing is supplied.
- Tre voci discutono una panchina il cui futuro resta incerto.· Three voices discuss a bench whose future remains uncertain.
- Ada dice «panchinetta»; Nico risponde «panchinaccia».· Ada says “little bench”; Nico replies “wretched bench.”
- Nico la giudica «irreparabile», ma manca una verifica tecnica.· Nico calls it “irreparable,” but a technical check is missing.
- Il comitato chiede un’ispezione prima di decidere.· The committee asks for an inspection before deciding.
