Evidence-based argument

Write a committee brief that tests its own recommendation.

Draft a qualified policy brief

Write a 330–390-word Italian brief for the fictional Pontechiaro municipal committee. Recommend whether to consider the twelve-week library-hours pilot, not whether to approve it without checks. In four short parts, state the proposal; evaluate the voluntary survey and 34 stated weekly intentions; compare the €3,700 combined estimates with the €4,000 ceiling; and give a condition-based next step on staffing, night-bus access, and evaluation criteria. Mention that the room has forty seats but no bookings. Show a serious objection and a reasoned reply.

  • La proposta riguarda due aperture serali alla settimana per dodici settimane.· The proposal concerns two evening openings per week for twelve weeks.
  • I centoventi questionari sono volontari, perciò la loro rappresentatività è limitata.· The 120 questionnaires are voluntary, so their representativeness is limited.
  • Il costo stimato è di tremilasettecento euro, con un margine di trecento.· The estimated cost is €3,700, with a €300 margin.
  • Il comitato non ha ancora approvato il progetto.· The committee has not approved the project yet.

Make the logical relations explicit

Use at least one causal clause, one purpose clause with the subjunctive, one concession, and one restriction. Label each in your draft. Revise in two passes: first check numbers and whether an intention has been misreported as attendance or an estimate as a final cost; then check that every connector expresses the relation you intend. Close with a testable condition for a future vote and a plan to publish the pilot’s actual results if the committee later authorises it.

  • Poiché il campione è volontario, non basta per stimare tutta la domanda.· Because the sample is voluntary, it is not enough to estimate all demand.
  • Fissiamo i criteri affinché la prova produca dati confrontabili.· Let us set criteria so that the trial produces comparable data.
  • Sebbene l’idea sia promettente, il margine è ristretto.· Although the idea is promising, the margin is narrow.
  • Un voto sarebbe opportuno purché il piano dei turni sia disponibile.· A vote would be appropriate provided the staffing schedule is available.
