Retell a historical event
Give a source-aware two-minute account of the fictional Valdombra case.
Your spoken archive briefing
You are a museum guide speaking to visitors. Give a two-minute Italian account of the fictional bridge episode. Include the four dates: observation and warning on 12 May, flood damage on 13 May, inspection on 16 May, and diary on 20 May. Use at least three passato remoto forms, one imperfetto background, and one trapassato remoto clause to show an earlier completed action. Attribute one detail to the notebook or diary and one to the municipal register. State clearly that no source counts hypothetical lives saved.
- Il 12 maggio la corrente cresceva e Marta notò una crepa.· On 12 May the current was rising and Marta noticed a crack.
- Appena ebbe avvertito il sindaco, tornò al ponte.· As soon as she had warned the mayor, she returned to the bridge.
- Secondo il registro, il sindaco ordinò la chiusura.· According to the record, the mayor ordered closure.
- Non sappiamo quante persone avrebbero attraversato il ponte.· We do not know how many people would have crossed the bridge.
Answer a visitor’s challenge
After the briefing, answer this visitor: «Quindi la chiusura salvò sicuramente molte vite?» Respond in two sentences: identify the documented action, then explain the missing evidence. If you practise alone, say both the question and answer aloud. Repeat your briefing once with only four date prompts. Check that no invented journey, exact water level, or number of people enters your account. Optional extension: recast one short section in historic present and label the stylistic shift.
- Il registro documenta l’ordine di chiusura.· The record documents the closure order.
- Non documenta il numero dei passanti potenziali.· It does not document the number of potential passers-by.
- Nel presente storico: «Marta vede la crepa e avverte il sindaco».· In historic present: “Marta sees the crack and warns the mayor.”
- La data degli eventi resta il 1904.· The event date remains 1904.
