So, can you hear me? In an hour we speak in public, and I want to be sure we do not promise too much.

  • Luca: Ti sento.

I hear you. I can handle the poster: the draft is ready. But I have not published it, as we agreed.

  • Anna: Ottimo.

Good. So can we manage Tuesday at six, or do we still need to wait?

  • Sara: Aspettiamo.

We wait. The library has not said which room will be available. We need that information before the access check.

By the way, a friend asked if he can book one of the twenty places.

  • Anna: No, fermo. Abbiamo chiesto venti sedie, cioè non abbiamo aperto venti iscrizioni. Spieghiamolo bene.

No, wait. We asked for twenty chairs; that is not twenty open registrations. Let us make it clear.

Yes, and let us not call the room accessible until we know which one it is. First I check the route, then I discuss it.

  • Luca: Va bene. Io comunque martedì me ne vado alle sette.

All right. In any case I leave Tuesday at seven. If the event happens, who stays to the end?

I can stay, but first we need to know if the event will really happen. I do not want to commit to an imaginary room.

  • Anna: Capito.

Understood. The library said it will answer by Friday noon, not that it has approved everything.

So at the meeting we say “event proposed for Tuesday,” not “confirmed event.”

  • Sara: Esatto.

Exactly. About timing: we do not know how long final confirmation takes. We only have a response deadline.

  • Anna: Giusto.

Right. If confirmation does not arrive by Friday noon, we postpone the evening and update the draft.

And if it arrives, you check the route, Sara. Only then do I publish the poster with correct information.

  • Sara: Sì. Me ne occupo io.

Yes. I will handle it. I can explain publicly that access still needs checking.

Wait, the message I received said “twenty places available.” I will correct it now: I misunderstood the chair request.

  • Anna: Grazie.

Thanks. Let us also say that an answer by Friday does not necessarily mean a positive answer. If it is negative, we will not force the date.

  • Sara: Esatto.

Exactly. And if they assign a different room from the one we imagined, I will check the route to that room, not another one.

Then I will leave a blank space in the draft for the exact place and access instructions. That way we will not need to delete a false promise.

In short, we have a draft, twenty chairs requested, and an expected reply. We do not yet have a confirmed room or registrants.

  • Luca: Perfetto.

Perfect. In chat we say “can we manage?”, but at the meeting we explain conditions and responsibilities.

And we leave time for a public question. If someone confuses chairs with booked places, we can clarify immediately.

  • Anna: D’accordo.

Agreed. I open the meeting, Luca speaks about the draft, and Sara explains the access check.

  • Luca: Va bene.

All right. We will manage to be clear, even if today we cannot give a final answer.

  • Sara: Esatto.

Exactly. And when we have a real confirmation, we will update everyone without inventing details in the meantime.

First pass: track each speaker

Listen to the full recording first, then use the transcript to check details. This is a Thursday call before the public meeting. Identify Anna’s deadline, Luca’s poster and leaving time, Sara’s access check, and which facts are still unconfirmed.

  • Allora, ce la facciamo a finire la bozza?· So, can we manage to finish the draft?
  • Con la grafica me la cavo.· I can handle the graphics.
  • Martedì me ne vado alle sette.· On Tuesday I leave at seven.
  • Ci vuole una conferma prima di pubblicare.· A confirmation is needed before publication.

Second pass: repair a misunderstanding

Mark how allora opens a turn, a proposito changes topic, cioè clarifies a number, and insomma closes the decision. The speakers correct a claim that twenty people have registered. Retell the call in clear Italian without treating the requested chairs or unknown room as confirmed.

  • A proposito, quale sala ci daranno?· By the way, which room will they give us?
  • Venti sedie, cioè non venti iscritti.· Twenty chairs, that is, not twenty registrants.
  • Comunque la locandina resta una bozza.· In any case the poster remains a draft.
  • Insomma, aspettiamo la risposta di venerdì.· In short, we wait for Friday’s answer.
