Decision mission

Make a conditional recommendation with clear limits.

Retrieve the decision facts

Without notes, state the fictional council budget, each estimated project cost, the main possible benefit of each, and one missing piece of evidence. The council has not approved either project. Then check your notes against the reading and debate before completing the final mission.

  • Il comune dispone di centoventimila euro.· The town has one hundred and twenty thousand euros.
  • La biblioteca costerebbe circa novantamila euro.· The library would cost about ninety thousand euros.
  • Le fermate costerebbero circa centodiecimila euro.· The stops would cost about one hundred and ten thousand euros.
  • Nessun beneficio è stato ancora misurato.· No benefit has yet been measured.

Final public recommendation

You are the chair of Pontechiaro’s resident advisory group. Prepare a 90-second statement for a public council meeting and a 160–200-word Italian email to the council. Recommend either the library evenings or the shaded stops within the €120,000 budget. In both outputs, compare the alternative fairly, state one condition for acting now and one imagined condition under which you would change your view, name a cost or access risk, and request one verifiable fact before a vote. Keep estimates and possible benefits separate from measured results. Finish by saying that no expense is approved yet.

  • Se arrivano preventivi affidabili, potremo decidere con maggiore sicurezza.· If reliable quotes arrive, we can decide with greater confidence.
  • Se il bilancio fosse più alto, prenderemmo in considerazione entrambe le proposte.· If the budget were higher, we would consider both proposals.
  • Preferisco la biblioteca, ma riconosco il bisogno di ombra alle fermate.· I prefer the library, but I recognise the need for shade at the stops.
  • Per ora nessuna spesa è stata approvata.· For now, no expense has been approved.
