News, sources and misinformation

Use source and verification terms in the workshop report.

Source and attribution

Una fonte is a source; una dichiarazione is a statement; la trascrizione is the transcript; attribuire means to attribute; verificare means to verify. A reporter can accurately quote a plan without having verified the later outcome. Name the source whenever a claim comes from Marta rather than from your own check.

  • La fonte originale è la dichiarazione di Marta.· The original source is Marta’s statement.
  • La trascrizione conserva le parole della conferenza.· The transcript preserves the words of the conference.
  • Il giornalista attribuisce la previsione alla portavoce.· The journalist attributes the forecast to the spokesperson.
  • La redazione non ha verificato il modulo online.· The newsroom has not verified the online form.

Wrong claim, uncertain motive

Un’informazione errata is incorrect information; una voce is a rumour; una rettifica is a correction. Do not say that the social-post author intentionally lied unless there is evidence about intent. Correct the two false claims: registration is not the workshop start, and planned places are not selected people.

  • Il messaggio contiene un’informazione errata sulla data.· The post contains incorrect information about the date.
  • La voce sui trenta partecipanti non è confermata.· The rumour about thirty participants is not confirmed.
  • La rettifica distingue le iscrizioni dall’inizio del laboratorio.· The correction separates registration from the workshop start.
  • Non conosciamo l’intenzione di chi ha scritto il messaggio.· We do not know the post author’s intention.
