Tavola rotonda: Piazza del Tiglio

A moderated community panel about a fictional proposal.

Vorrei sentire benefici e problemi concreti.

Welcome to the Borgo Nuovo meeting. Today we discuss a proposed three-month Saturday-afternoon trial at Piazza del Tiglio, with fewer cars, movable benches, and planters. No decision has been made. I want to hear benefits and concrete problems.

I would try it. The neighbourhood lacks places to stop and talk without buying something. When I go to the market with my daughter, I would like to sit for a moment. So some benches seem useful, even though the square is small.

I understand Sofia, but I run a shop in the square and receive parcels on Saturdays. If a vehicle cannot get near the entrance, I must carry heavy boxes farther. Before supporting the trial, I need clear delivery times and access.

That is important. The proposed restriction is in the afternoon, while many shops receive goods in the morning. Gianni, would written morning access address part of your concern?

It could help if the time and entrance are precise. Unexpected things can also happen on Saturday afternoons, so I would ask for a contact number. I do not want to block the plan, but I cannot say the issue is solved.

For me, the main issue is the route. Benches and planters may improve the square, but may also narrow the path. Before placing them, let us measure and ask people with different mobility needs to test the layout.

  • Sofia: Sono d'accordo.

I agree. If a bench stopped someone passing, it would not be a good bench. The movable items can be repositioned. The trial should help more people, not only those who want to sit.

Some neighbours wrote that they fear more noise. The proposal concerns Saturday afternoon, not evening, but we must hear that concern. How could we check it without deciding the outcome in advance?

We could publish the hours and collect reports during the trial. Although I think benches would help, I do not know how many people would use the square. Reports would help distinguish a concern from a problem that really occurs.

I only ask that reports receive a response. If a delivery fails, I need someone to speak to that day, not only after three months. So the plan needs a named contact and a simple way to reach them.

At the end, we should look beyond one number. Count people who stop, but also record access, deliveries, and noise. Hear residents, shop owners, and people crossing the square. Although views differ, we can agree what to observe.

  • Marta: Grazie.

Thank you. To summarise: the trial would have limited hours, morning delivery access, a measured route, and a contact for problems. Results would be assessed after three months. I will send this version to the neighbourhood council, which will decide whether to approve it.
