Personal invitation email

Develop people and relationships through a focused writing itinerary.

Writing task

Write an informal 90–110 word email to Elena, a friend of Giulia, to invite her to a surprise party. Give the day, time, address, and reason for the celebration. Ask Elena to bring one useful item, tell her not to mention the surprise to Giulia, and ask her to reply by Thursday. Use a direct pronoun for Giulia or the item and an indirect pronoun for the person receiving a message.

  • Sabato organizziamo una festa per Giulia.· On Saturday we are organising a party for Giulia.
  • La invitiamo senza dirle della sorpresa.· We will invite her without telling her about the surprise.
  • Io compro le bevande e le porto a casa tua.· I will buy the drinks and bring them to your house.
  • A Marco scrivo io: gli mando un messaggio.· I will write to Marco: I will send him a message.

Revision checklist

Check that Elena can find the exact day, time, and place. Underline each pronoun and write its noun above it: «la invitiamo» means Giulia; «le scrivo» means to Elena or Giulia, depending on context. Make the reference clear in your email. Check the informal greeting, the request to keep the secret, and a polite closing.

  • Conosci i suoi amici del lavoro?· Do you know her friends from work?
  • Sì, li conosco e posso invitarli.· Yes, I know them and I can invite them.
  • Ci serve aiuto con la musica.· We need help with the music.
  • Chiedo a Paolo: gli piace fare il DJ.· I will ask Paolo: he likes being the DJ.
