Ask for and offer help

Develop people and relationships through a focused speaking itinerary.

Speaking task

You and your friend Marta are planning Giulia’s surprise party. Speak with Marta for 60–90 seconds. Ask whom to invite, offer to buy drinks, ask who can help with the music, and agree on who will contact Giulia. Refer back to people and objects with at least two direct object pronouns (lo, la, li, le) and two indirect object pronouns (gli, le, mi, ti). End by repeating each person’s task.

  • Sabato organizziamo una festa per Giulia.· On Saturday we are organising a party for Giulia.
  • La invitiamo senza dirle della sorpresa.· We will invite her without telling her about the surprise.
  • Io compro le bevande e le porto a casa tua.· I will buy the drinks and bring them to your house.
  • A Marco scrivo io: gli mando un messaggio.· I will write to Marco: I will send him a message.

Performance and self-check

Use a short task list, not a full script. Record the exchange and check that Marta can say who will contact each guest, bring the drinks, and manage the music. Before you repeat, check that «li» refers to male or mixed plural people or objects, «le» can refer to female plural objects as a direct object, and «le scrivo» means I write to her.

  • Conosci i suoi amici del lavoro?· Do you know her friends from work?
  • Sì, li conosco e posso invitarli.· Yes, I know them and I can invite them.
  • Ci serve aiuto con la musica.· We need help with the music.
  • Chiedo a Paolo: gli piace fare il DJ.· I will ask Paolo: he likes being the DJ.
