Decisions, economics and opportunity

Use the words needed to compare two public proposals.

Money and decisions

Learn each term inside a policy sentence: il bilancio is the budget; il preventivo is a price quote; il costo stimato is an estimated cost; finanziare means to fund; approvare means to approve. A quote is not an approval. In the Pontechiaro case, the council has €120,000 but still needs updated quotes.

  • Il bilancio non copre entrambe le proposte.· The budget does not cover both proposals.
  • Chiediamo un preventivo aggiornato per le fermate.· Let us request an updated quote for the stops.
  • Il costo stimato della biblioteca è di novantamila euro.· The estimated cost of the library is ninety thousand euros.
  • Il consiglio non ha ancora approvato la spesa.· The council has not yet approved the expense.

Benefit, risk, and trade-off

Un beneficio is a benefit, un rischio is a risk, una priorità is a priority, and un compromesso is a trade-off. L’accessibilità means accessibility. Use these nouns to explain why a project may help some people but still requires checks. Do not confuse a possible benefit with a measured outcome.

  • L’accessibilità è una priorità per entrambe le proposte.· Accessibility is a priority for both proposals.
  • Un beneficio possibile non è un risultato misurato.· A possible benefit is not a measured result.
  • Il rischio è superare il bilancio disponibile.· The risk is exceeding the available budget.
  • Scegliere un progetto comporta un compromesso.· Choosing one project involves a trade-off.
