Tell the complete story

Develop what happened? through a focused speaking itinerary.

Speaking task

You are Giulia. Tell an Italian friend what happened on your train trip to Florence. Speak for 60–90 seconds. First describe the station, the weather, and how you felt. Then tell at least four completed events in order: the announcement, the wrong train, the advice you received, and your arrival. End with your reaction and answer one question from your friend. Use imperfetto for background and passato prossimo for events.

  • Alla stazione c’era molta gente.· There were many people at the station.
  • Mentre cercavo il binario, ho sentito un annuncio.· While I was looking for the platform, I heard an announcement.
  • Poi ho preso il treno sbagliato.· Then I took the wrong train.
  • Alla fine sono arrivata a Firenze.· In the end I arrived in Florence.

Performance and self-check

Use five keywords to plan: station, weather, announcement, new train, arrival. Record your first attempt. Check that a listener can name the problem and the solution. Repeat without full notes. Check the difference between background «c’era molta gente» and event «ho sentito un annuncio», and agreement in «sono arrivata» if Giulia is the speaker.

  • Sabato ho lavorato, ma domenica sono andato al lago.· On Saturday I worked, but on Sunday I went to the lake.
  • Hai nuotato?· Did you swim?
  • No, ho fatto una passeggiata e ho letto un libro.· No, I went for a walk and read a book.
  • Mentre aspettavo, ho sentito un annuncio.· While I was waiting, I heard an announcement.
